There is a lot of talk these days about digitalisation and the digital revolution. However, it is not always clear how they affect a company’s operations. Contrary to popular belief, digitalisation is by no means a phenomenon that emerged in the 2010s and 2020s. Digitalisation started in Finland in the 1980s, but its significant impact began in the Digital age. This has also begun to show in business as various growing trends, such as e-commerce, the platform economy and digital advertising. Why and how should such ones be and should be utilized?

In words, digitalisation, e-commerce and social media may sound threatening if the company’s business has so far been tightly tied to, for example, brick-and-mortar sales and traditional print media. For such a company, a digital upgrade doesn’t have to be a big leap at once, but can start small. Small steps include setting up social media accounts and the Google My Business page. After that, you can start considering, for example, paid social media advertising. With social media, you can target ads to your own customer base and gather more specific data about how your audience responds to that ad.

However, digitalization does not mean that all of a company’s business needs to be moved online. The brick-and-mortar stores work perfectly in cooperation with the online store. The online store is practically just one more outlet for customers who, for one reason or another, do not visit the brick-and-mortar store. With a clear and modern e-commerce or website, customers will also find information faster. Awareness of a company’s online services is also increased through good search engine optimization.

If you feel that your own skills or time are not enough to digitize a company's business, it is worthwhile to acquire an external factor. This allows the entrepreneur to focus on being a professional in their field and things like social media, online shopping and digital advertising happen by themselves. It’s like magic. Such outsourcing can also save money for the company, as a digital marketing professional can make different kinds of social media and digital advertising campaigns very effective and efficient!
